Culture and Community
The historical manor and mill setting invite to join colourful urban culture. The old Lielahti industrial area has been open to people, events and active operations since 2016. Tens of thousands of people visit the area every year. The Hiedanranta of the future will be the home of flourishing urban culture, doing things together and a wide variety of activities for spare time. In the past five years, many kinds of doers and makers, companies and artists have found their way to Hiedanranta, and each of them has livened up the area in their own way.

Exhibitions
Gallery Muuntotila is a contemporary art gallery at Lielahti Manor coordinated in cooperation by the City of Tampere’s Cultural Affairs and Rajataide ry. Exhibition application rounds are organised once a year based on an open search. The free-of-charge exhibition space and open-minded curating present an opportunity for brave experiments. Visiting the exhibitions is free.
Opening hours starting 8.5.2021: Tue–Fri 10:00–17:00 and Sat 11:00–18:00.
Manor Café Mielihyvin enables a low-threshold exhibition space. You can contact the staff or the Sopimusvuori office for an open slot. Opening hours: Tue–Fri 10:00–16:00 and Sat–Sun 11:00–17:00.

Paja at Hiedanranta
Paja is a community of artisans and artists in Tampere. The idea behind Paja is to promote open artisanal culture and offer experiences and services for both nearby residents and tourists alike. At Paja, you can find a glass blower, a smith, musicians, visual artists, cobblers and upholsterers.
The community has grown gradually as artisans of different trades have moved their operations to Hiedanranta. Artisans open their doors to the public, showcase their work and have a pop-up café, courses, an art gallery and organise events in and around Paja.
You can also buy their handiwork and works of art to take with you. The doors of Paja are always open to the public even though all operators of Paja may not have established opening hours. Come and say hello – you can book an appointment in advance or step bravely in!

Paja at HiedanrantaPirkanmaan Kaarikoirat ry – Indoor Sketepark D.I.Y.
Pirkanmaan Kaarikoirat have built Finland’s largest concrete indoor skatepark in Hiedanranta for skate enthusiasts and pros of all ages. The skatepark has also expanded to an outdoor park open to everyone. The purpose of the association is to promote transition skateboarding.
The association operates primarily in the Tampere region but is also interested in promoting transition skating elsewhere in Finland or abroad.
The association aims at creating great premises and atmosphere for its operations in order to promote the mental and physical well-being of the association’s members and others interested in skateboarding.

KaarikoiratTampere Photography Association
The purpose of the association is to develop the expertise of its members and bring together photography enthusiasts in Tampere. In company, a solitary activity becomes fun and social. Photographers of all ages and styles are members of the association, ranging from nature photographers to portrait specialists who shoot with either system cameras or mobile phones. Traditional film photography and black-and-white printing is also done in the association’s darkroom.

Organising an Event
The historical mill and factory surroundings of Hiedanranta present a unique setting for events. Suitable premises can be found at Lielahti Manor, the parks, the Saunalava stage and the indoor skatepark Kenneli D.I.Y. You can apply for production support for events that are open to all and free from the City of Tampere.

History
People have been in Hiedanranta since the Middle Ages. The small Lielahti village grew into a cavalry freehold, from there it became the summer residence of the von Nottbeck family and then a mill area. The City of Tampere bought the district in 2014, which started a completely new chapter in the history of Hiedanranta.
